The display is perhaps the most crucial factor if you plan to play mobile games. The minimum screen resolution for gaming laptops should be 1920 x 1080p (Full HD) or higher; it’s also better if the laptop has an IPS panel instead of TN.
It’s an LED-backlit thin film transistor liquid crystal display with a non-reflective matte finish. You’ll experience a more immersive gaming experience with an IPS panel as it better covers the wide color gamut.

Best Cheap Gaming Laptops 2022
1. Dell G5 15 SE Gaming Laptop
I thought there was more interest in G5 laptops here, so I’m posting this one. It’s a Dell G5 15 SE that I am sure most of you are familiar with. There are some great mods out for it, but what caught my eye is the screen replacement people have been doing on these things. Using 1080p screens!
Here you would find a new battery; screen upgrade from HD TN to 1080p IPS Matte (JDM-S0090A) (used AMVA panel, not sure who made it though) – CLAA156UA07B9W (Couldn’t find very much info on this at all.)
Custom heatsink using copper shim and Arctic MX-4 – Thomas Mennecke Rubber grommets for the rear cover screws. (5mm thick) – DocTog1. And here is an example of how amazing it looks:
This model has a matte 1080p screen, but it had a glossy screen before that. It’s also possible to get these screens refurbished with dead pixels and backlight bleed beyond what I consider normal. You can usually return for another one if they are still under warranty. These models usually ship with 8GB of RAM though they support 16GB.
The onboard processor is an i5-8300H with integrated Intel 620 graphics. There are many CPU/GPU upgrades available for this laptop, with most replacements coming in the form of a custom backplane system (which also involves soldering) or motherboard replacement.
Storage is handled by a single M.2 port from the chipset, usually limited to SATA speeds with SSDs. PCI-E NVMEs are known to work, but they usually require high wiring (more soldering). And the capacity for storage of data it brings with the package is 512GB and extendable as per your financial capability.

It’s not as powerful as other alternatives, but this laptop can perform well enough even in 1080p resolution on IPS Screen. This laptop comes integrated with Dolby Audio premium technology for better sound quality during gameplay.
Two 2-watt speakers on both sides of the keyboard produce crisp sounds while playing music or watching videos on player mode. However, you can’t expect much on an extreme volume level.
Moreover, Lenovo Legion 5 has many ports available on the sides. There are two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and an HDMI slot for external display support.
Additionally, a headphone jack and ethernet connector can play games online or download patches/updates offline via broadband service.
Lenovo Legion 5 is powered by an NVIDIA GTX 1660Ti graphics card (made exclusively for laptops). It’s not as powerful as other alternatives like Razer Blade, but this laptop can perform well enough even in 1080p resolution, which fits its price range.
AMD Ryzen 7 4800H mobile processor is pretty snappy while opening applications or doing simple things like checking email or browsing the web.
It is a powerful enough processor to handle most daily tasks without any problem. Additionally, it comes with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, which is upgradeable to 32 GB memory if you have some spare bucks lying around.
In terms of battery life, Lenovo Legion 5 has an average of 7 hours and 30 minutes using basic computing activities like browsing the internet and taking notes on Microsoft Word.
This laptop comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 operating system, so you don’t have to worry about updates. Lenovo Legion 5 laptop has many ports available on the sides. There are two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and a slot for external display support.

The first cheap gaming laptop that we have for you is the Dell Vostro 15 7500 which comes with the powerful NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB graphics card, which you can see by yourself in the pictures below.
That is an optimal solution if you don’t want to spend so much money on a laptop but still play games at medium-to-high settings with stable fps. You can find this Dell Vostro 15 7500 model for around $800, and that’s already an outstanding offer.
Moreover, this laptop is also available as a configurable model on Dell’s official website. You can configure it according to your needs and budget, but keep in mind that this will increase the final price of the device.
Also, I have to mention that some models with an IPS display would cost you more than their actual price.
Whereas the Dell Vostro 15 7500 has a solid construction and comes with one of the most powerful graphics cards at this price point.
The Intel 10th Gen i7-10750H, the 6-Core processor, is something that you won’t find very frequently on gaming laptops with these characteristics. Still, there are some exceptions, such as the Acer Aspire VX 15 laptop.
As for the storage, the laptop comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD and 32GB DDR4 RAM, which is enough for gaming. According to my experience, the Dell Vostro 15 7500 model offers one of the best performances per money on the market. Overall, Dell Vostro 15 7500 is a great cheap gaming laptop with an impressive hardware configuration, and I recommend it as an optimal device for everyday use, gaming, and 3D design.

5. Dell G5 15 Gaming Laptop
The Dell G5 15 gaming laptop brings 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, 9th gen i7 processor. Dell’s latest cheap gaming laptop is a good choice for anyone looking to get into PC gaming without spending a whole lot of money.
A cheap laptop doesn’t have to mean flimsy and cheap, and the Dell G5 15 proves it. It’s not as thin as some of the other laptops we’ve seen this year (and looks a little dated), but it’s still got plenty of power to spare.
The screen is perfect for the price, though it lacks color accuracy and viewing angles. That said, playing games at 1080p on the Dell G5 is mostly a treat – especially if you’re coming from an older laptop or even a lower-powered machine like the Surface Laptop 2.
Its keyboard isn’t perfect – we wish there were more key travel – but it feels super solid and responsive to type on. There are also two USB 3 ports, so it’s easy to plug in your favorite joystick or gamepad.
We like that Dell packed in a better-than-HD display for the price and made it GDRR5 ready. Gaming is smooth at 1080p, but you’ll notice some slowdown if you push the settings up, and we’d recommend steering clear of 4K gaming on here – especially with AAA games.
At least until you buy an external GPU dock (which isn’t out yet), suppose you’re looking for a solid entry-level laptop to do everything – from work to play – this isn’t the wrong place to start. Just don’t expect it to replace your PC gaming rig anytime soon.

6. MSI GF63 Thin Gaming Laptop
The MSI GF63 Thin is the new 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H processor-powered laptop that can be considered a budget gaming beast.
This review is based on our initial encounter with this machine. We are providing our honest assessment throughout the entire usage period of this laptop. It certainly will not hurt to take note!
The MSI GF63 Thin Gaming Laptop exterior boasts an aluminum alloy material with a Gold accent finishing around the cover. The logo gives off a premium look and feels without bearing too much bling (chromed).
The hinge design is well-crafted, and there’s no annoying creaking sound when you play games. Moving forward with the graphics card, the GF63 Thin gets a GTX 1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 graphics card inside.
It’s certainly not bad for a portable laptop device, especially with its Full HD IPS panel, which delivers a sharp and clear view of everything on screen. The only downside is the low 80% SRGB color coverage, but then again, this is a budget gaming laptop.
For processing power, the MSI GF63 Thin comes standard with an Intel Core i7-8750H 6 core processor that can get your tasks done within no time without breaking a sweat running games at native resolution (on native 100% DPI scaling).
We recommend you stick to 1080p resolution in most scenarios until the game starts requiring more GPU horsepower than what it has onboard.

7. Lenovo Legion Y545
Lenovo can do no wrong with gaming laptops. Okay, they’ve got a couple of stumbles here and there, but for the most part, they have delivered solid entry-level to high-end portable machines that have pleased gamers looking to avoid desktop replacement bulk. One of my favorites this year has been the Lenovo Legion Y520.
However, Legion Y545 takes things to the next level. The design is simple yet beautiful (and not boxy like Legion Y520). The laptop itself feels sturdy and weighs less than most other 15.6-inch laptops that are similarly specced.
I don’t like about it, though, that the touchpad drivers can be a little buggy at times. Otherwise, it is a stunning machine.
I was impressed by the simplicity and stability of the Legion Y520 and its performance for mainstream games like Overwatch and League of Legends.
The Lenovo Legion Y545 is breaking new ground here with a gorgeous display paired with a processor that can now take advantage of high refresh rates better than ever before.
If you’re looking for a laptop that can play games at 1440p but doesn’t want to break the bank, then the Lenovo Legion Y545 might be perfect for you!
Excellent 1080p gaming performance
Supports two internal storage drives
Well placed ports
Chassis gets hot while gaming
webcam location is odd
No media card reader

Best Cheap Gaming Laptops FAQs
Are you looking to buy a gaming laptop but are presently on a tight budget? This is perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions I get from readers.
And, it comes as no surprise. High-end laptops are often costly and can put a hole in your pockets if you aren’t careful or don’t know what you’re buying!
On the other hand, purchasing an affordable gaming laptop means giving up on some component or the other – something that sacrifices either its performance or makes it look unappealing.
So, if you were wondering that $500 – $700 is just not enough to let you run modern games smoothly through such laptops, then you need to think again.
Many gaming laptops under $700 can perform high-end gaming devices. The only snag is they aren’t all good at it, which makes buying a laptop an uphill task if you don’t know what you’re looking for!
